The big yellow and blue funiture mall

This is day 1. Opening day for this big yellow and blue funiture mall. The big yellow sign point to the way we should enter. However, due to it being day 1 and crowd control measure being taken, it does not actually point to the place you enter.
What I did was to take the cargo lift to bypass the crowd queueing up to get into the mall.
Look at that queue! There are people more infront of them.
This is not a mall!! It is a wharehouse with airconditioning builtin. Furniture Furniture everywhere. All of them flat packed. Ready to roll from the shelf to your car, to your house. The size is huge. It took me more than 2hrs just to leisurely walk from the start to the end. This is without taking a look at all the stuff. Anyway it is just like the other branch. The only difference is the size and the spaciousness of the display. Posted by Picasa

Caught this by chance. The expression on this kid face tells me that he is very interested. However he does not understand a heck bit of what his older sibling is trying to tell him.

Fitness

For 2 days in a row, I jogged.
Day 1:
I jogged continuously for 15min and 47 sec.
Did 2 sets of 4 chin ups, dips and some crunches.

Day 2:
I jogged continuously for 20min and 31 sec.
Did 0 chin up as my muscle are totally aching. Did 3 sets of 10 backpress and 3 sets of crunches.

Bear, watch out. I am going to be fit again.

Trends when having a break

Now that I have way too much time to use, it is perhaps time to buck up on the use of grammar by writing. They say practice makes perfect.

The whole point of this blog is to document the fact which I noticed. Everytime when I am having a long break, I will fall sick first.

I had a bad flu on Friday. It was so bad that my muscle spasm. I feel the chest muscle and shoulder muscle tense up. Almost to the point of having cramps. Saturday feel the same. Not too many sneeze, but cough also conjured up the same muscle spasm. In addition to that, the flesh beside the spinal cord ache. It is like I did some hundreds of trunk bending exercise. Sunday feels much better. Muscle ache is still there. Sore throat subside a bit. Nose is blocked. But overall much better.

Well .... time to get things in action. Let me have a fresh start.

I am reinstalling my PC/Laptop.

Chapter 30: Frontline - End

Another chapter of my life ended on the 24th Nov 2006. A short stint in or at the frontline*. I cannot say that it was a bad experience but neither is it a good one. There are also plenty of experiences in between the good and the bad.

Let start with the bad ones. I realize that argument is a argument is a argument. There is no good think about an argument. It leave me drain an unmotivated to work. Why is it an argument? It is because, the parties involve do not see eye to eye. My explanation does not answer the others question, neither did is reply address my concern. This is also the workplace where someone sitting close to me has to send an email to tell me what is going on. I hate this kind of environment. I also don't like it when you share ones opinion, the answer you get is "From the way I look at it........" (It stay that way. I still see it my way) . Lastly, for a company that claims to be a technological company, ie dealing with IT, you have to explain to the managers what are servers. Servers are servers and are valid in both the physical and software context. Weblogic Application Server is a software server. A cuboid metal box with wires sticking out of it, running HPUX, with 2 RISC CPU and a few hard disk is a hardware server. (There is now a new definition that is becoming more and more valid and that is a VM. A WM serving information from within another computer is also known as a server. The server within a server.)

The good things are always the hardest to part. It just happen to be the most intangible part of the whole experience. You gain friends and you share ideas. Lotiki - www.lotteryintelligence.com, bears the fruit of a small discussion starting from how to strike it rich. We talk about statistics and probability. Slowly we mind the official website for information. Stripping 20 years of 4D results and putting it into our own database. Surprisingly, we found that there are still numbers yet to be open on the 4D lottery. Sharing of experiences, some bring in view point of another part of the globe. How you think is influence by how where brought up.

Along the way in the middle of all these good and bad:
- I restarted my class 2B license lessons. (For those non local reading, in my country you need to have a license to ride a motorcycle. That license to ride is known as the class 2b license. It only allow you to ride motorcycle between the 0-200 cc range.)
- I learn a little about data center operations.
- Server relocation is a simple, but tough job. The dependencies are plenty and most are hidden within the complex, deceiving configuration files.
- I think someone deserved to be spank. If you say the thing is easy to do, then you do not need me to do a sizing of the work for you.
-IBM notebook are really good. I was issued a notebook with a warranty sticker shown to expire in 2000, it has a WIN98 compatible sticker. It is still running and its performance is rather decent if I do not open to many things at the same time. The thing is that it still works after what 7-8 years at least. The 12.1 inch form factor also make a the lightest laptop I ever had. Correction, it is a desktop replacement. The battery is dead. No plug in, No playing.
-My boss is really overloaded. Handling so many project at the same time and still don't display much signs of being burn. I am actually quite impress. But then signs being burn are creeping in.
-There are Naruto fans here too!
-The mince meat noodle at the coffeeshop near to the NTUC is great!
-I am getting better at playing pool. I won the last game against my colleague in the last game, 2-1.
-A colleague keep saying that I'm just too nice.
-Taking taxi some times can be a hassle. Some taxi drivers are full of complaints and while some has great philosophy of how life should be. But in summary, all of them disagree with the government on how they should handle the taxi company.
- I don't like to work late. I want my life, even if it is plain and boring.
- Things get done not because of an email, but because of a nice "please" and "Coffee on me".
- I get to work on my birthday. Which I normally try to take the day off.
- There are quite a number of female staff with very nice curves in the frontline.
- Drinking milk give you power. The term is milk power.
- There are backline in the frontline.

Well now I am in search of new ideas, a future, healthier and better life. I wish whoever is coming in good luck.

This is our beach.

This a first world country's beach. Somehow, the education of the citizen is still not up to standard yet. I guess all the elite's hands cannot be dirtied and will not soil their hand to pick up the trash that was generated by them.

But then as a responsible earthling, we must all do our part to keep the environment clean. Less plastic, more plants. Less waste, more money.

Photo Shoot.

Had a great time over the weekend. The five of us meet up for breakfast at TiongBahru newly renovated market place. After a bowl or Lor Mee, we move on to Telok Blangah Hill Park.

So like we move around the hill 6 times like this, 2 camera men and 2 cameras. The total photo equipments on my car at that time was probably in the range of 10K ++.

Suprizingly, all of us had a car of different make and model. We had a Honda Civic, Renault Megane, Hyundai Matrix, Toyota Altis and Mitsubishi Lancer.

Rain.

Dark clouds was in the horizon as I was traveling on the TPE towards Woodlands. I can see the not just the dark clouds but the rain that was falling from heavens. It was like fuzzy dotted line being drawn from the clouds to the earth below. It was visible.

That was even before the first drop of rain hit my vehicle. The raindrop was big and heavy and the sound on it made on the roof of Matrix almost drown the radio blasting away. It was one of the heaviest rain I ever encounter.

The new terminal 2. Recently renovated in conjunction to the hosting of the IMF talk in Singapore. Another effort to that failed to impress.

It does not mean that it is not good looking or energy efficient, but the reason for the renovation is totally wrong.

Furthermore, the T2 viewing gallery is now no longer there. Back in 14 years ago the viewing gallery was right at the glass. It was the closest we can get without actually being a paying flying customer. Now that space is reclaim by the transit lounge. Posted by Picasa

I want one for christmas. I just cannot wait till my next birthday.

Giving up seats.

Call me a bias but I noticed that males give up their seats in public transport for pregnant lady more often than females?

Whereas on the other hand more ladies give up their seats to those who had small children or babies?

Why?

Setting your Targets

Every now and then your bosses will pester you with target settings. The normal questions asked are, what do you see yourself doing 1 year from now? What do you intend to achieve? The standard managerial questions.

Me, I never know what to say. In IT the things changes so fast. So does my goals. But something never change, I want to be happy.

Well another kind of target settings, which are hard but in the physical sort of way. Here we are setting the targets in the GPMG range. 3G army still uses the old method to set the targets, hammer, target board, sweat and muscle ache. Posted by Picasa

Why can some one say "Get out of elite face!". Some 18 year old by the name of Wee Shu Min. You have not step into the world yet. Arrogance will get you fed the humble pie.

Whatever happen to modesty, humility, loyalty, respect, filial piety? From the looks of things around me, it is overtaken by consumerism, arrogance, "me first" and "not my problem" attitude.

This tree house embodied almost 80% of what I had in mind as a viable alternative to an apartment. It uses renewable energy sources and is symbiotic with the living organism around the habitat.

Apart from that fact that it is still on the ground, I think it fulfill my idea of a tree house.

Vegetation is getting to be a commodity

This comic strip comically point to a fact that a large number of cities in the world does not have much of a greenery.

Economy and the population.

I asked a question in the internet and hope that the community can answer it. It did.

This is my Question:

Is the economy dependent on the population of the country? Why is it so?

When I look at the way banks, investments and especially insurances, I can't help but think that the economy is dependent on the population. The more that was contribute means those early bird can reap the "cream". To achieve the same result at a later stage in time, the effort is more. ie, When it your time to reap the pie much more have to be contributed to get the same amount of "cream". Eg: When your policy mature, the investment have to be so much more. Why?

This the answer that I got.

I'm not sure i quite understand the last part of your question but i'll deal with the 'is the economy dependent on the population of the country' Simply speaking yes its is, very much so. In the manner that labour is a key factor of production and without it there would be no economy.
But a better answer than that deals with population increase and decrease because thats what your really talking about. If you look back at history and the industrialisation of europe, japan and the USA in fact all the largest economies in the world, their economic growth was accompanied by population increases, this was due to a variety of reasons such as better standard of living and quality of life means lower infant mortality, increased life expectancy etc, but the increased population also helped to fuel the growth as it filled the gaps in labour markets for jobs in factores etc.. As to whether this is relevant today to pick up from an earlier answer look at China and India, both experiancing huge economic growth ( Goldman Sachs predicts China and India to be the worlds two largest economies by 2050,)
Similarly much economic depression accompanies population decrease, Germany and much of mainland western europe have almost zero growth in both sectors.
Economic Growth definitely does lead to population increases but these increases usually continue to power the growth because of more labour available, improved dependancy ratios( ratio of working people to non working people) that said if the growth is not accompanied by increased productivity there may not be enough jobs for the new population and unemployment can increase causing the dependancy ratio to go the other way, ( plus if its birth led increase the babies will teporarily not be able to work!)
Lastly for those who said it doesnt matter 'look at america' they should look at America and examine the population of america in 1850 and then again in 1950 and then say its not important!

Then Another guy post this view. Although it did not answer my question directly, it point out the sentiments that a normal folks have. Still having.

We did just as well, if not better when we were still 13 colonies. Economy depends mostly on how much government interference there is. The more government, the less money we have for it.
Anything that the government pokes it's nose into is probably bad. We pay for it anyway through taxes! Let the economy run the country, they should be here just for our safety, not our happyness... or their happyness.

Root

To different people the word root can mean different things. Like to my Sys Administrator friends, it is a the most powerful account on their system and they will protect the account at all cost.

Root to the plant means, life. The essence of life enter the plant body primary through the root. The orchid root is expose and not in the soil. It is able to extract water from the atmosphere. Posted by Picasa

The haze. The unhealthy fog generated by the burning of trees. Although the act of burning is not done in our country, it has affected us greatly.

But I wonder, would we have done the same if Singapore/Singaporean is in their shoe? Proabably yes, we will burn it and announce to the world that it is for their own good.

Being Honest.

Being honest, is not the easiest thing to do on the face of this earth. Being honest will reveal the ugly side of who you are and what you have become.

So to be honest, I think i am not going to go anywhere here. I am not doing a good job here? Probably I could, but I did not. Sometime in the month of Aug 06, I broke. It was a mental breakdown of sorts. No I did not lose my mind, but I lost my motivation. I lost my spirit. Being passionate about my work, about the technology that I am so keen in did not help.

Yes, I do not know the client style. I don't understand what they want. Why did they design it that way? Why did i do it this way? Why do we disagree on so many front? Why? Why? Why? When I start asking myself this, "Why do I even bother?", I know the end has come. I cannot in my clear conscience stay on. Cos I cannot contribute positively anymore. It is sapping away my passion. Slowly but surely.

Ideas attract ideas. It attract innovations too. It is fortunate, that I am able to meet up with people who are willing to share their ideas. An open discussion of ideas and not a presentation of ones skewed perception of events generated more ideas. If one cannot accept another person view then there is no point in the discussion. You talk and I listen. I gain your perception of things. Like Joan of ark. The messenger get skewered for the things she has to say.

Yes. I just wish I can drop and go. If not for the money, why would i continue to run on an empty heart. I know i cannot make progression here anymore. So I am going. Seven more weeks to go.
Such a long time. Countdown! Yeah!!

My world. My family. These are the people that are my immediate family. Sadly not all of them are around here and now. Without this diagram, how can my world be completed in 8?

My dad came from a big family. With 9 other sibblings, he is right in the middle, 5. 3 older brother and 1 older sister. My mom, she is the eldest.

The diagrams does not include my cousins. Some of them are much older than I am and some much much younger. Friends come under another chart. Still in the making.

Surprize

Someone said I had too much time. Perhaps someone is right. How should time be spent then?
  • Write a novel like JK Rowling?
  • Train to be Arnold number 2?
  • Mine your office mail box and answer email?
  • Find out what to do with your life?
  • Write a program to save the earth?
  • Figure out which government official is not corrupt?
  • How to better the human race?
  • Catching up with sleep?
  • Write something in your blog so that some one with as much free time will read?
Give some suggestion, share some interest. Leave me an idea.

My Flat again

Recently there are about this many things that made me feel good about life. The progress of my flat is one of them. The exterior painting is in progress and it has a decent colors which suits my taste. I can also see wiring dangling from some of the units, ie they are wiring up the flat.

Well at this rate, I am expecting that we should be able to visit it pretty soon. Posted by Picasa

Can human survive without food?

I recall the show on Discovery Channel, it shows that this guy in India had not touch food or water for the last few decades. Well at a very least in a controlled environment, he had done that for 10 days under surveillance.

Can it be done? I am no biologist to say so. But probably at an atomic level, it can be done. Atoms gain energy by absorbing electrons. Molecule are form by the combination of atoms. We are in constant contact with atoms and molecule. Perhaps he has a way of absorbing them through the skin? So he does not need food or water, where the molecule of foreign body are ingested and assimilated as our own.

The Kingdom of Heaven is by Communism

Over the weekend, me and wife were chatting and somehow this topic came up. Government and the style of ruling. So I told her that, both of which are humans. Humans are so susceptible to corruption when given power. "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely". Given the fact that government, be it communism or democracy all want to better society. But humans are in the way.

Somehow the topic mutated. So God make the rule in Heaven. There is no money in Heaven and eveyone is equal. Everyone does his/her part for the betterment of the Heaven society. Everything is provided for and you do as you are told. Hmmm sounds like communism too me.

Argue with his commandments will you? But the difference is that, he does what he does for the good of his people. Always for the good of his people.

Human leader with that quality is almost impossible to come by.

Imagine a Workplace
By Joyce Orecchia

Imagine a workplace,
Where open hearts and compassion thrive,
Where passion is cultivated and innovation soars,
Where everyone is your ally and competition is obsolete,
Where leaders empower, inspire, and motivate you to grow,
Where serving and supporting employees is a management priority,
Where gratitude and recognition abound,
Where work-life balance is a reality,
Where meditation is a productivity tool,
Where Diversity is all-inclusive,
Where integrity flourishes,
Where community service is a company value,
Where Earth conservation is practiced,
Where Work & Spirit are United.
I imagine such a workplace!

My take on the above? I think to me the keyword is the imagine in the last line of the poem. Capitalist world that we live in will never allow the such a situation to arise. Unecessary pressure is given when money is not enough.

Did you know?

Here is some interesting findings on the Number Crunching exercise:
There are 31 sets of numbers which did not get any prize since 1986.

Incredible.

4Digit Number Crunching

Ok. I admit it is a little bit pointless, but i have successfully done it anyway. I have successgfully scrape of the 4D data from the source. The data range from 1986.

Haaaa. Now to format it and do some number crunching and hopfully gain something out of it.

My first Blood Donation

NUH organized a blood donation drive at where I work today.

I walked into the "recreation room" a.k.a the "Blood donation venue". The door was wide open with a few "early bird" already giving blood.

On the right side of the room was a small desk where I took the "form". Kinda of like those where you sign out for the insurance agent. It package was a questionair. It asked plenty of stuff. Basically, if you had sex and have sex with who. Male or female. Come to think of it, 1 of the question was pretty biased against the gays. There wasn't one that question on lesbians.

Write write write. Wait wait wait. Finally the doctor saw me. He took my blood pressure and had a chit chat with me. He was a retired army doctor. "Working through lunch until 3pm is nothing as compared to working in the army", he said. He must be referring to the long, endless queue of recruit waiting to see the MO (Medical Officer). Ho Ho, over the borderline high blood pressure.

Passed. With a small hitch. I forgot to mention the taking of malaria pills of the PS course last year. Goodness, those pills have an impact of up to 6 months from what I overheard. If you had consume those pills within 6 months, you will have been barred from donating blood.

Ok. On the chair. I wanted to use my left arm. But as always the master hand had to be bigger. Even the vein looks bigger to the nurse. It is going to affect my squash tomorrow. Contrary to what everyone would have believe the needle poking in is almost painless. Thanks to its super sharp edge. (It gives me the creep if those things is poked into the wrong places) For the next 10 minutes, I watch my precious life give fluid flow out from my body. Until the pack was full. That will me 450ml. Or so I was told.

I feel great once the needle was out of my body......not. I felt normal for the first 5 minutes. However, the things starts to look a little brighter and brighter. I almost experience a white out. The retina does not have enough blood to control the pupils. The nurse rushed to my side elevating my legs and levelling my body. So the the blood can flow back to the brains.

5 mike later. I am fit to go. Getting hungry by the minute. Things to note next time. Have meals first.

The morning Post.

Another misty morning. No raining. Another Thursday. My Turn tonight. Brain is still booting up.

Bright Idea?

Sometimes a bright idea is just another over-expose piece of infomation. Just like a business proposal. You put too much bombastic words inside and many hip and popular key words that the clueless manager will think that "Hey I am really Impress."At the end of the line, it is just a colorful pieces of paper with lots of chart. If an idea is like the object in this picture, it is only over exposed.
The difference between a manager and an engineer, is that an engineer sells what he built and the manager get people to build what he sold. He is only as good as the people around him. ie a chain is as good as the weakest link. Posted by Picasa

I guess most blogger will have a mental block every now and then. Most people do anyway. I think a mental block will look like this. A brown wall. Can be a black one too. But to me it is a brownish yellow. Even using the army clearing of low wall technique also cannot remove. It needs TNT. Tons of it. At times it can be as easily remove by another thoughs. I realize that sleeps help. Having fun do too. Of course you the reader help too by leaving a comment, an idea. Posted by Picasa

Resolved.

Mind is made up. What a relieve. I guess I am not an easy person to understand. Thanks Goodness, I have a wife who do.

3 Point Line.

Like a basketballer standing at the 3 point line, I am prepared to make the throw. As soon as the judge whistle.

When is your time up?

#1: You know you aren't performing to the best of your ability

We all go through slumps, bad days, even bad weeks when we just don't care, don't give it our best... but what if that week turns into months? If you just don't have what it takes to give it your best, something needs to change. This is a common sign of burnout or of being overworked, underworked, underchallenged, or out of your depth.

If lack of motivation is the only issue, it may be possible to effect change within your current company by requesting different responsibilities, more training, or another position. But if none of these options is available, it's time to update your resume.

#2: You start gravitating toward coworkers you can be disgruntled with

Think about the people with whom you choose to socialize at work. Whose company do you seek out? Are you drawn toward the malcontents, the people who derive pleasure from complaining about their boss, the declining benefits, and the unreasonable overtime? When people ask you what you like about your job, is it rather like when Uncle Bob asked, "What's your favorite subject at school?" and all you could think of was recess?

#3: You can't picture your future with your current employer

Do you remember those irritating questions the last time you were interviewed: "Where do you see yourself in three years? Five years? Ten?" Perhaps it's time to ask yourself those questions again. But this time ask, "Do I see myself HERE in three years? Five years? Ten?" If the answer to any of these questions is "no," what is your plan? Where do you want to go? When were you planning to make your move?

As much as we'd all like to simply wake up one day to find ourselves in the perfect job, the chance of it happening is probably slightly slimmer than a one-eyed, polka-dotted aardvark materializing in your trash compactor. If you know that you want to be working someplace else at some point in the future, it's never too soon to make a plan.

#4: You take inventory of your job's pros and cons... and the cons win

If you're having a hard time deciding whether to change jobs, try this simple exercise. Create a document with two lists--things you like about your current job, the pros, and things you dislike, the cons. Next, apply a weighting to the items. This can be as simple as a value from 1 to 10 to rate the importance of each factor. For example, if the stringent dress code is on your list of cons but it isn't that important to you, give it a 1 or 2. But if the excellent health insurance is a pro, it would probably warrant at least a 7 or an 8.

Next, add up each list. If the cons outweigh the pros, it's probably worth at least considering a change. If nothing else, this exercise will force you to focus on what you specifically do and do not like about your current position and give you a more concrete idea of what to look for in a new position.

#5: You look for ways to improve your current situation but you can't turn it into what you really want

Another useful exercise is to take your list of pros from the previous exercise and expand upon it. Elaborate on the items already on the list and add other items you wish you could claim about your current position. When you're finished, review the list for items you may be able to make happen at your current company. If you want more responsibility or more flexible hours, you might be able to work that out, whereas if you work for a missile manufacturer and happen to have developed pacifist beliefs since accepting the position, your only reasonable option is to seek a position in a different company. In other words, before jumping ship under the assumption that a new position will make all your problems vanish in an instant, make the effort to effect improvements in your current position. If trying to make changes proves futile, you'll be more confident that seeking a new position is the right thing to do.

#6: Your skills are lagging and your position offers no opportunities to update them

How is your skill set? Are you able to keep your skills up to date? What would happen if your company went under today and you were forced onto the job market? Would you struggle to find a better or even an equivalent position because your skills are out of date? If this is the case, is there anything you can do to rectify the situation in your current position? Are there training opportunities you haven't been taking advantage of?

If it's not possible to stay employable in your current position, it's definitely time to make a change, even if you enjoy the job and your company seems stable. You may be able to supplement your company's deficit by paying for your own training, but without the opportunity to use your new skills in a work environment, such training will be of little value. To determine the current marketability of your present skill set, try searching for jobs equivalent to yours. Do you meet the minimum requirements?

#7: You can't get enough positive reinforcement to keep your spirits up

Do you feel valued? Feeling valued in your job is one of those almost indefinable benefits or forms of compensation that can't be measured by any objective means. The degree to which someone needs to feel valued to be happy in a job varies greatly from person to person. Some people are perfectly content never to receive a word of praise or public acknowledgment of their achievements. For others, this type of recognition is more important than a generous salary.

The first step toward obtaining an appropriate position in this respect is to become aware of your own needs. The next step is to develop some techniques for determining whether these needs will be met when considering a new position, perhaps by asking appropriate questions during interviews or by finding current employees willing to talk. If you're already in a job that you otherwise like, figure out what you need in order to feel valued and find ways to communicate these needs to the appropriate person.

If the only time your boss talks to you is to tell you that you need to do better or improve your attitude, try explaining that it would also be helpful to know when you are doing something right. Try being proactive and ask your peers, your users, or your superiors to let you know if there's more you can do to help them. This could have the pleasant side effect of eliciting some positive feedback when they tell you that they're perfectly satisfied with your current level of service. If you still can't get the validation you need, it could be time to seek it elsewhere.

#8: Your salary just isn't enough

Are you paid what you're worth? Although receiving inadequate financial compensation for your efforts is rarely the sole or even the most important reason that people change jobs, it's a significant factor. For most people, being paid what they're worth--at or above the going market rate for their job function--is an essential aspect of feeling valued. Don't know what you are worth? Try looking at comparable positions on job hunting Web sites, review compensation surveys, or update your resume and submit it to a headhunter to solicit feedback.

Being paid inadequately can be particularly galling if you happen to find out that one of your less experienced and/or less qualified co-workers is being paid more. Early in my career, I was given the task of training a new employee, an assignment I took on quite willingly until I learned that despite her lack of experience, her salary was almost exactly double mine. Although I continued to train her, my enthusiasm definitely waned. My request for a mere 5 percent pay increase was denied, so I took the only reasonable course of action and secured a position with a different company. In this case, salary was not the only factor, but it was the one that finally persuaded me to make a change.

#9: You want to live somewhere else

Have a great job but hate the location? Even if you have the perfect job, unless your career is the single most important aspect of your life, disliking the area in which you live or having a burning desire to live someplace else is an important factor in deciding to change jobs. Since accepting my first IT job, the need to relocate has been a significant force in my decision to change companies three out of four times. In fact, of those three, I relocated twice without even having a job to go to.

#10: Your company or work situation has changed radically since you were hired

Your job used to be perfect, but now it has changed. Maybe your company was bought out or your boss retired or got reassigned. Or perhaps your company had a significant shift in operating philosophy or in its mission, and now you're no longer working in the same environment into which you were originally hired. If such changes occur, you basically have three choices: Go with the flow and make the most of the situation, quit, or stay and complain. These types of changes can be so far-reaching in their impact upon your daily life that the result is not dissimilar to being forced to change jobs and companies. You may be going to the same physical location each day, but every other aspect of your job has been transformed. Even if you're not unhappy with the changes, this is a good opportunity to reexamine where you are in your life and make sure you take full advantage of the new circumstances.

Wild? Wet is a definite.

Vistied the Wild wild Wet in Pasir Ris last sat. This is the 3rd time i been there. The attraction has not been upgraded and the ride are the same. Thanks goodness the price has drop. haaa

People who visited there are mostly non Singaporean. Or at least those that caught my attension were not Singapore. (To the best of my knowledge). Another trend that i notice is the popularity of the 2 piece swim suit. Almost 80% wear the 2 piece swim wear.

But, if you are a parent and you want to bring your kid there, pls consider if the kid is taller than the 1.2m requirement for most of the rides.

PS: Thanks goodness, no sunburn!

Passion

Passion the feeling akin to love or intense feeling. Can we use them in work? Is it applicable to working in Singapore?

Passion for you work. As passion is not measureable it is Not applicable. So let it rest and work on the other measurable attributes.

Heard today.

I took a cab home tonight with a friend. I heard from this taxi driver who heard it from this DBS employee, that there are 3 account in DBS without any name. These 3 account have only credit transaction, ie only deposit. And every time the amount deposited is the range of 1oos of thousands.

Anyway, these info is heard. I have no way to verify the information. So whoever read this do take it with a pinch of salt. If any of my readers can verify any of the information do drop me a comments.

Reason to blog.

The reason to blog is to let people know how you feel. As what one of my friends said, what's on the net stay on the net.

The other reasons is to let the whole damn world know how you feel. Sometimes you just want to have an avenue to vent some pent up fustration. Someone is bound to read it. Sometimes.

Have more children?

During my parent time, the policy was to "stop at 2". Now, 30 years later, it is "have more if you can". The government is going that way so as to solve the problem of an aging population. But is it?

How can you solve the problem of an aging population by having more birth? Would it not mean the same problem will happen again in the future? Furthermore it will be multiplied by the fact that we have a bigger old population then?

There may be an underlying problem here. It is the investments and insurance. As the population get older, there will be more and more pay out. The increase payouts are due to more insurance policy getting mature. These will mean the pool of money get smaller and smaller. Thus to over this situation, they need people to put in more money. Generally speaking who are the likely catagory of people who will put money in? Young people. People with much to lose. So they buy insurance or make "investments".

So as the population gets older, there will be less people to support the "insurance and investments". It will come a time when the pool of money is not enough to support the organization. Then it will collapse. As the population gets older, there will be less people paying taxes. Lesser people to support the tax structure too. It will also face the risk of collapsing if the population does not have the critial mass. Thus Singapore is encourgaing "foregin talent" to come to singapore to take up citizenship to participate in paying taxes and contribute to the "investment" so that those who has invested earlier on can cash out bigger amount of money.

To me, a piece of land is an asset. This piece of land is fix in size. (Ignoring the fact that you can reclaim and rasing sea level is usable land away) How can you create more of this asset by having more people living on it? A piece of land can only support so much people. Tax it too much, it will not be able to support the people for long. Too little people living on the land also means that the full potential is not brought out.

The solution is to keep the population relativly constant. We are wasting away our earth. We must know that resources are limited. Unlike what investment gurus are saying, "I can create wealth". There is only 1 earth. How the fuck are they going to create more wealth? It is just divding the pie into smaller pieces. They they can take more of it. haaaaaaaaaa

The world top few most populated countries. You should follow in China footsteps. Stop at 1. Do not let your population go uncheck. Pushing your citizien out of the country is not a solution. It is only temporary. Evenly spreading the population. Sharing it with other country.

1 earth. Limited resources. Have children so that they will need to fight for a ever smaller portion of the same resouces? Think again.

Grass is Greener

Where is there green grass? Where grass is greener is where there is light, water and nutrients. Where there is green grass is also where the herbivore will gather to graze. Where they graze, they shit. So does it make sense where there is shit, there is green grass?

Should i become a shit collector?

Whoever operate the sewerage should be very rich. No wonder they say that money stinks.

The first brick has fallen.

In a domino set up. When the first brick fell, the rest will follow. All the brick will fall. Sooner or later. Until the pattern is completed.

The first brick has fallen. It has set in motion something which is unstoppable. I have booked my holiday for Gold Coast and will depart on the 9th Dec. If everything goes as expected.

Sleepless nights

Have you ever had sleepless night? Last night was one such night for me. I lie in bed. Not too much tossing but lying still. Staring at the empty ceiling. I start to wonder, what can I be doing if i am not working? Why can't I sleep?

Just the night before I received a compliant from my wife that I snored so loud that it stop her from sleeping. Oops. Snoring not something I can stop conciously.

Want to read... but cannot on the light. Surf the net, but read all the interesting stuff already. Work? Never. I have lost hope of ever doing something interesting for the company. Lost hope in the way they work. The only hope i have is striking toto during work. Well it is hope that keep the human spirit alive. Hope, that keep people going.

Oh yeah, I realize today, the difference between the driven and not normal people is pretty simple. They want something so badly, they will persist, consistently at the same task, like the droplet of water falling from the sky. Keep on going until something big stop them or when they reach their destination. Destination Earth!

Oh yeah. Another day! My hope is alive. I have someone to care and share. I am a contented man. I am a happy man afterall.

A sea of Red.

A day has pass and the nation is now 41 years and a day old. Make that 2 days old. On the actual day, I noticed that many were wearing the national colors, Red and white combination. It make me realize that Singapore are actually quite patriotic. If all of them are Singaporeans that is.

This is a the fact that Singapore has more that 25% of its current population as foreigner. That is a fact. The government has a rule imposed to actual limit the number of non Singaporean employee that it can employ. Ok so it is not a rule but a ratio.

Enough of the bad thoughts. Happy Birthday Singapore.

What do you do when someone say, "I'll tell you... "

When someone says that to you, you can either choose to ignore it or you can choose to rebut. The thing about this is that when the sentence start with this few words, it is basically from a personal point of view. When a personal view is express, it always skewed towards the perception of the originator.

Of course this is also a personal blog. The ideas are skewed towards my understanding and my feelings. You are free to object. And I can choose not to listen.
